Transcendence, by Carolyn Callahan, is a collection of oil paintings and drawings that take us on a journey into a fascinating world of images and connections.  The themes of escape and exploration are at the center of her work, challenging the audience to question and maybe even rethink reality altogether.

The exhibit’s 25 paintings and drawings are rich with images reflecting Callahan’s travels through India and Africa, combined in ways that cause the viewer to rethink our concept of reality and our place in the universe.  Her emphasis on bird and other animal figures provides a framework for reinterpreting the human experience and serves as a transcendent messenger between body and spirit, between the known and unknown.

It’s all about energy!

My paintings express the interior worlds of personal and universal energy forms and symbols. I use the “bird” shape throughout my work as a figurative expression of the link between the material and spiritual realms.
